What is JEE Main?
The Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is a computer-based standardized test conducted in India for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). It also serves as the eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is required for admission to IITs. Students use JEE Main as a crucial stepping stone to evaluate their speed, accuracy, and syllabus coverage.

Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed their Class 12 (or equivalent) examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject.
Age Limit
There is generally no age limit for candidates appearing in JEE Main. However, candidates may be required to fulfill the age criteria of the institutes they are seeking admission to.
Year of Passing
Candidates who passed Class 12 in the previous two years, or are appearing in the current year, are eligible to apply.
Registration & Exam Process

Step 1: Eligibility Check
- Age: No age limit.
- Qualification: Passed Class XII (or equivalent) in current/previous year, or appearing. Candidates who passed two+ years ago are NOT eligible.
- Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (for B.E./B.Tech).
Step 2: Choose Session & Paper
- Sessions: Session 1 (Jan/Feb) and Session 2 (Apr/May). Best NTA score is considered.
- Papers: Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech), Paper 2A (B.Arch), Paper 2B (B.Planning).
Step 3: Online Registration
Visit the official NTA JEE (Main) website: jeemain.nta.nic.in
1. Registration
- Provide basic personal details.
- Create a strong password.
- Note down system-generated Application Number.
2. Application Form
- Fill complete details and qualifications.
- Select Paper(s) and exam cities (limited to State of Present/Permanent Address).
3. Fee Payment
- Pay online via Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card, or UPI.
- Download/print Confirmation Page.
Upload Scanned Images:
- Photograph: JPG/JPEG (10-200 kb). 80% face visible (no mask), white background, ears visible.
- Signature: JPG/JPEG (10-100 kb).
- Class 10 Cert / PwD Cert: PDF (50-300 kb) if applicable.
Step 4: Admit Card
- Available 3-4 days before exam.
- No post delivery; download only.
- Carry printout + valid photo ID to centre.
Step 5: Appear for CBT
- Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT). 3 hours.
- Shifts: 09:00 AM – 12:00 Noon | 03:00 PM – 06:00 PM.
- Report 2 hours before; entry closes 30 mins prior.
- No electronic devices or stationery allowed.
Post-Exam Process (Steps 6-8)
Step 6: Answer Key
- NTA displays provisional key.
- 2-3 day window to challenge (₹200/question).
Step 7: Result & NTA Score
- Session 1 rank declared in ~2-3 weeks.
- Final AIR after Session 2 (best score).
- No re-evaluation.
Step 8: Counseling (JoSAA/CSAB)
- Admissions to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs.
- Eligibility: 75% in Class XII (65% for SC/ST/PwD) OR top 20 percentile.
Important Instructions & Documents
- Documents to Carry: Printout of Admit Card (A4), same Passport Size Photo as uploaded, Valid Photo ID (Original), Transparent Ball Point Pen, PwD Certificate (if applicable).
- Update Aadhaar details before applying.
- Fill application form only once. Multiple forms lead to cancellation.
- Sikh candidates can wear religious articles ("KARA", "KIRPAN").
- Unfair means will lead to 3-year debarment/criminal action.

1. Time Management
With 75 questions in 180 minutes, you have roughly 2.4 minutes per question. Do not get stuck on any single problem. Learn to skip and review.
2. Accuracy Over Speed
Negative marking (-1) can severely damage your rank. Only attempt questions you are reasonably confident about.
3. Analyze Mistakes
Taking mock tests is only half the work. Spend equal time analyzing your mistakes and ensuring you don't repeat them.
4. Formula Revision
Maintain a separate handbook of all formulas. JEE Main often features direct formula-based questions in Physics and Chemistry.
